island of palm-trees, is located on the African coast,
at 500 kilometres to the South of Tunis.
he island
is 35 km wide, is totally flat and has no rivers. It
is covered with palm trees, date palms and age-old olive
trees.
he climate
is very dry with an average annual rainfall level of
20 mm and an almost constant number of days of sunshine.
Sea-bathing is possible from May onwards and the water
temperature reaches 28°C in August. The island is
protected from excessive heat and from cold-air currents
by a natural dome of sea mist.
F rom the road to the airport, one can see the famous
traditional dwellings or “menzels”, brightly
whitewashed and rectangular and scattered all over the
countryside. The island has more than 400 mosques with
cupolas and arches, spread all over the island.
he most
beautiful beaches of fine sand can be found on the north-eastern
coast of the island, where is naturally set up the tourist
zone with its numerous hotels.
It’s in the island’s capital, Houmt Souk,
that are concentrated the markets, crafts workshops,
cafés and restaurants. This town, so typical
in its aspect, was able to preserve through the years
the remains of its ancient caravanserais.
The village of Erriadh is located in the middle of the
island at 9 km of Houmt Souk and is only some minutes
away from the airport.

peaceful alleyways of the small medina.
The tradition food shops, the blacksmith workshops,
the old café at the entry of the ancient market,
they all contribute to having you pervaded with the
charm of the place.
